'I Already Did That': Swiatek Surprised By Question About Future Dominance

Iga Swiatek was asked about possibly dominating the WTA Tour in the future, and she reminded the reporter that she already did.

A drop-the-mic moment unfolded at the 2024 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix after the Polish player had to remind a reporter about something she already did. Swiatek got her title-defending campaign in Stuttgart underway with a solid win over Elise Mertens.

During the post-match press conference, Swiatek was asked an interesting question by a reporter who wanted to know her thoughts on possibly dominating the WTA Tour in the future. She was a bit confused by the question and reminded the reporter that she'd already done that in the previous two years.

"Well, the question is if I already did that for past two years, because I feel like I have been pretty dominant, and also Aryna has been, so we both kind of have shown that there is consistency on WTA."

"I remember when I was playing in 2020, 2021, I also got many questions about consistency, and I felt like some players, you know, have proven that it's possible. So I already feel like I have been pretty dominant."

Swiatek has indeed been quite dominant, winning a few Grand Slams and being ranked number one for much of that time. She briefly lost the top spot, but she also got it back and is still holding it.

She's also still winning trophies, so she's pretty dominant. She admitted that the next few years might be different, but she'll also try to be dominant in the future as well.

"But we'll see what next years are going to bring. There have been players that have been dominating throughout their whole careers, you know, and I'm still at the beginning. So there is still so much work to do."
