Winning a Grand Slam title is something only few people managed to do, winning more than one is quite rare, but winning all four Grand Slams and also gold Olympic medal, almost impossible.
Only the greatest players in the history of sport managed to complete career Golden Slam and now, Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova dded their name to the list after winning the 2022 US Open, the last Grand Slam they missed.
The Czech duo lifted their first Grand Slam title at the 2018 Roland Garros and added another one right at the next Grand Slam tournament at Wimbledon. However, then they waited long three years before winning in France again, but they still missed titles from Australia and United States.
But this year, Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova won a total of three Grand Slam tournaments. It started at the Australian Open, then they added another title at the Wimbledon and finished the year with US Open trophy in their hands. Moreover, last year, they won the Olympic Games and so the career Golden Slam was completed.
"I don't think it actually was the toughest one. I think we just went step by step. I will say the Aussie Open was really tough for us as well. All the other Slams were tough, too. We just needed the right time to achieve all of that," said Krejcikova about completing the career Golden Slam.
"There is no right time. We were just working and practicing and trying every time to show our best on court. This time we played great. We kept working and even if it wasn't going our way, we kept fighting. I'm just so happy we have the title. I think "keep fighting" is the key. I don't think there is a right time; it's just sometimes it clicks together," added Siniakova.
