Emma Raducanu surprised many by hiring former Kontaveit coach Dmitry Tursunov but his reputation as a coach skyrocketed after the tremendous work he did with Kontaveit.

The Estonian player rose to number two on the WTA Rankings after working with the Russian. The news created headlined in the UK with many taking a negative stance. Some politicians even urged Raducanu to reconsider in order to avoid becoming Russian propaganda material.

The duo linked up in Washington ahead of the WTA even there and Raducanu reached the quarterfinal of the event losing to Samsonova last night. Following her loss, Raducanu gave her impressions of Tursunov after their first event together:

"He's a really relaxed guy and personality. I think that he is great to have around. When you are 5-All in the breaker, he's still chill, probably making some really bad joke. He's got a good sense of humour. He's good to have around in the team."

She finished off with:

"He's teaching me how to be easier on myself, not trying to chase this perfection [e.g.] you can win and not be perfect."
