November 15th proved a big day for Coco Gauff as she was present in Delray Beach for a ceremony that honored her.
Gauff went to Florida after deciding to make tennis a full-time career, even though she wasn't born there originally. She spent most of her time in Delray Beach, and the city honored her by displaying her Wimbledon outfit from 2019 in the City Hall.
The 2019 Wimbledon was a very special tournament for Gauff, who was only 15 when she entered it as a qualifier and defeated Venus Williams in the first round of the tournament, before making her way to the fourth round and losing to the eventual champion Simona Halep.
Now, her outfit from the tournament will be displayed at the Delray Beach city hall, and the city held a special ceremony for the reveal. Shelly Petrolia, who is the mayor of the city, hosted the ceremony, and she was really happy about being able to have the teenager's outfit on display in the lobby of the city hall.
"After waiting for two long years, we get to unveil this momentous gift that Coco gave the city. We are so very proud and honored to have it hanging here in the city hall, showcasing our superstar. We know that the future has great things in store for you, and your hometown will always be cheering you on."
Gauff, who grew up in the city as a person but also as a tennis player, was happy to donate her outfit to the city hall, as she also attended the special ceremony.
"Thank you to all of the city of Delray for constantly supporting me. I started tennis in Atlanta, but I think I fell in love with the sport in Delray. I already received the key to the city, which was great, so thank you for that. So, having this another special celebration just means a lot to me and is a constant reminder of the love and support that I have here."
