Nick Kyrgios could join forces with fellow Australian, Ajla Tomljanovic, at the inaugural United Cup taking place in their home country at the start of next season.

The talented pair were in a relationship between 2015 and 2017, having previously met representing their country, before going their separate ways. They have not often been seen on tour together since, but have both been announced in the team to represent Australia in the United Cup.

The United Cup is a mixed-gender international team tournament, seen as an expanded reboot of the hugely popular Hopman Cup, which will take place across three Australian cities at the turn of the new season.

It is a joint WTA and ATP tournament, providing ranking points for all players involved, and involves singles and mixed doubles matches.

Kyrgios and Tomljanovic are both the highest-ranked players for their respective tours on the Australian team, which means it is highly likely they will be paired as the mixed doubles team for the Aussies.

This year's Wimbledon finalist, Kyrgios, is facing allegations he assaulted another ex-girlfriend, Chiara Passari, in Canberra last December.

When asked about the allegations in a Wimbledon press conference this summer, Tomljanovic expressed disappointment and surprise, but offered support for Kyrgios by adding that she had never experienced anything of the sort with him.

"I'm not really aware of exactly what's being said about his past relationship and the allegations," she said at the time.

Tomljanovic added, "It's been a while since our relationship ended. I've always kept my relationships very private. I would like to keep it like that. I'm definitely against domestic violence. I hope it gets resolved. But, yeah, I mean, I haven't had that experience with him".

Both players enjoyed stand-out seasons this year, with Kyrgios reaching his maiden Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, and Tomljanovic reaching the last eight at both Wimbledon and the US Open, knocking out Serena Williams on route to that quarter-final finish in New York.
