Gauff Records Yet Another Thrashing Win To Continue Wimbledon Progress

Coco Gauff continued her 2024 Wimbledon Championships run with another simple win in two sets, booking the third round of the third Grand Slam this year.

Gauff arrived in London with an interesting mix of results, good enough for many to declare her one of the favorites. Her play leading up to Wimbledon was good enough, but she also didn't have any stand-out results.

However, her level so far at SW19 has been great. The first match was an easy win for the American, who hopes to have a really deep run at the grass-court major. After last year's dreadful showing, Gauff was just happy to win that first match comfortably and move on to the second round.

She'll also be happy with the second-round result as well because the win never seemed to be in doubt. At the start of her match against Anca Alexia Todoni, Gauff immediately broke her opponent to take a 2-0 lead.

She added another break later on to take a 5-1 lead, after which she won the opening set of the match 6-2. She wasn't the most precise in the opening set, finishing it with more unforced errors than winners, but her opponent was even worse in that regard.

They both had 13 unforced errors, but Gauff had nine winners compared to the Romanian, who had only nine. Winning that opening set so comfortably was really important for the American, as she served really badly, hitting the first serve only 38% of the time.

An early break in the second set only confirmed that Gauff was on a roll, and from there, it was rather simple for her to win the match. The final score was 6-2, 6-1 for the American, who has looked really dangerous so far at Wimbledon.
