Caroline Garcia won the third title of the season after defeating Petra Kvitova in the final of the 2022 Cincinnati Open.
The 28-year-old French player didn't enjoy a lot of success on the WTA Tour after winning her last title in 2019. However, this season, she's doing extremely well, and she managed to win already three titles.
At the 2022 Cincinnati Open, Garcia had to play in the qualifying because of her insufficient ranking, and she started the tournament already more than a week ago.
In the qualifying for the WTA 1000 event, she defeated Diane Parry and Andrea Petkovic. In the main draw, former World No. 4 won against Petra Martic, Maria Sakkari, Elise Mertens, Jessica Pegula, and Aryna Sabalenka before taking on Petra Kvitova in the final of the tournament.
Both players played very well in Cincinnati, but the French player defeated many more difficult opponents, so she wanted to show the Czech player that she wanted to finish her great run at the WTA 1000 event with a title.
In the first set, it was a story of one woman when Garcia started with a break and added one more to get a swift 4-0 lead. She didn't lose that advantage and won the set 6-2 in 40 minutes.
In the second set, it was again Garcia who got the first break, but the rest of the set was much harder for her. She faced a total of 4 break points but always remained calm under pressure to eventually win the match 6-2, 6-4, and win the 2022 Cincinnati Open.
After two trophy-less seasons, it is already the third title for Garcia this year. Previously, she triumphed at the WTA 250 events in Bad Homburg and Warsaw before lifting the WTA 1000 title in Cincinnati.
