At the 2022 US Open, Emma Raducanu was facing a difficult task as she needed to defend 2000 points from last year's triumph if she wanted to keep her spot in the WTA Rankings.

In the first round of the tournament, she was facing one of the most-experienced players in the draw, world number 40, Alize Cornet. It was the French player who stopped Iga Swiatek's winning streak this year at Wimbledon and so Emma Raducanu knew she will have to play her best tennis to advance.

Throughout the match, the Brit made a lot of errors when the number of unforced errors stopped at 31. On the other hand, her opponent added 22 winners while Raducanu had only 15. Despite a very good start, the 2021 US Open champion soon lost the lead in the first set and lost it 3-6.

In the second set, Raducanu led already 3-1, but couldn't handle the pressure of her opponent and after 100 minutes, she left the tournament already in the first round, losing 3-6, 3-6.

Her first round exit is also a reason why she will find herself out of Top 75 of the WTA Rankings after the tournament. The exact position of Raducanu depends on how other players perform. For example, compatriot Harriet Dart can become British no. 1 if she wins one more match at the US Open.
