Coco Gauff vs Lucia Bronzetti: 2024 Indian Wells Open - Preview & Prediction

by Zachary Wimer

Coco Gauff barely won her previous match at this year's Indian Wells Open, and now she will face Lucia Bronzetti

Gauff had a really stressful start to her 2024 Indian Wells campaign, as she barely survived the match against Clara Burel. She was down 2-5 to the French player but rallied to beat her in the third-set tiebreak.

After the match, Gauff admitted that she wasn't happy with the level but was proud of the fight as she should be. The hope is that his upcoming match goes smoothly, but it's not guaranteed, as Bronzetti can be a tricky player.

The slower court will benefit the Italian, though she's obviously overawed when it comes to talent. Realistically, this shouldn't be a very complicated matchup for her if she plays the way she can.

Should the level from the first round show up, it will be tougher, but I think she will still pull through. But why complicate things for yourself? Let's see why Gauff is the overwhelming favourite.

Head-to-head:

Gauff and Bronzetti have never played on the WTA Tour before, but they did play on the ITF Tour five years ago. The French player was a teenager back then, and she was still able to beat Bronzetti in two sets.

It was a clay match, so the surface that generally suits Bronzetti more vent, though Gauff was always amazing on it as well. The Italian has improved a lot since then, especially on hard courts, and Gauff has also improved.

I don't really see how Bronzetti can create a lot of problems for her. She has an attacking style of play, but Gauff can absorb that. She's certainly not as good as Burel, but the French player had a really good day and still failed.

Prediction:

If Gauff finds anything close to her decent level, she'll be all over this matchup, and it will be over in two sets.

Prediction: Coco Gauff to win in two sets.
