Coco Gauff Jokes About Spending Massive US Open Prize Money

by Jake Davies

Coco Gauff jokingly talked through what she intends to do with her US Open prize money in an Instagram live video days after winning the title.

It must have felt like a whirlwind for Gauff over the last 48 hours, going from being a genuine contender for a major title for the first time to cementing herself in history by sealing her first Grand Slam singles title.

There is perhaps a lot to process for the American until she chooses to set her sights on the next goal and tennis ambitions moving forward. But when talking on an Instagram Live video, Gauff shared a wonderful moment where she lightheartedly talked through what she wants to do with her prize money.

"Somebody said pay off debts, I'm 19 and I don't have any debt. I'm not in debt, I live with my parents still, so I'm not in debt. I didn't go to college, so I don't have any student bills to pay. I'm too young, my parents never put me in that position to be in debt, so I have nothing to pay right now."

Gauff will add $3,000,000 to her bank balance after winning the US Open title and is now just outside the Top 50 when it comes to prize money earnings among active WTA players. After joking about not having to pay off any debts, the 19-year-old said that she'll most probably enjoy some vacation outside of the United States.

On top of that, the American will now rise to a new career-high of No.3 in the world in singles, as well as becoming joint No.1 in doubles with her doubles partner Jessica Pegula. Gauff became the first American teenager to win the US Open title since Serena Williams achieved that feat all the way back in 1999.

Gauff obviously is looking to break through obstacles and continue to create even more history. She will want to build on what she's accomplished, although consolidating can often prove tougher than getting to the pinnacle in the first place.
