Eugenie Bouchard took a dig at "dopers" Maria Sharapova and Dayana Yastremska after her latest win at the 2023 Madrid Open.

Bouchard hasn't played a lot in recent years. She played only nine matches in 2021 and only 15 in 2022. This year, the Canadian player hasn't appeared on the tennis courts much, either.

Bouchard also hasn't had much success on the tennis courts when she played, but that changed at the 2023 Madrid Open. She qualified for the main draw for the first time since 2017 after winning two qualifying rounds.

The Canadian player recently admitted that she feels like she is restarting her tennis career, and it certainly looked like that in the first round of the WTA 1000 event in Madrid.

She took on Dayana Yastremska, who is one of the dangerous players. Bouchard was able to beat the Ukrainian player in three sets, winning 6-7(6), 6-2, 6-2.

But as if her win didn't gather enough attention, Bouchard made it known that she beat Yastremska also after the match. She posted a relatively controversial tweet, branding her opponent a "doper."

"There's something about playing dopers in Madrid."

Bouchard wasn't referring only to her match against Yastremska. In 2017, she stunned Maria Sharapova, beating the former WTA World No. 1 player 7-5, 2-6, 6-4.

Both of these players tested positive for a banned substance during their careers. Yastremska had a positive test for mesterolone. On the other hand, Sharapova tested positive for meldonium.

Although Bouchard later deleted the tweet, she didn't delete another one, in which she responded to one of the fans stating: "Genie Bouchard is now 2-0 vs. players with a doping ban in Madrid." The Canadian replied: "Just trying to do my part," along with a laughing emoji.
