Bianca Andreescu ended her recent run at the Miami Open in a wheelchair after suffering what appeared to be a terrible ankle injury, but luckily it’s not as bad as it initially looked.

Andreescu was enjoying one of her better runs recently, having won a couple of matches to make the fourth round of the WTA 1000 event in Miami. In the fourth round of the tournament, she faced Ekaterina Alexandrova and, after losing the opening set, Andreescu was up 2-0 in the second set.

It was at that moment that she badly injured her ankle as she was running and then, out of nowhere, tumbled down screaming in pain and holding her ankle. She wouldn’t continue the match and had issues putting any weight on her ankle, requiring a wheelchair to cart her off the court.

Of course, many fans were worried that this injury could put Andreescu out of play for a very long time. However, luckily, the prognosis seems to be much better than expected for the 22-year-old player.

She reassured fans in a recent statement, admitting that while she doesn’t know how long she would be away from the sport due to the two ligaments she tore, it technically could have been much worse, and she’s grateful that it’s not.

"Results show that I've torn two ligaments in my left ankle. It's tough to say how long it will take, but let's just say it could have been much worse!!!"

For Andreescu, the most important thing is that she managed to remain positive, which will certainly help her on her comeback journey.

"I'm going to take it day by day, and I'm optimistic that with the right work, rehab, and preparation, I'll be back on court soon. Rehab process has already started and will continue to give updates. Love you all."
