Paula Badosa shared an update regarding her fitness heading to next week's US Open which is expected to mark her first tournament back since Wimbledon.
Badosa hasn't played since retiring from her second-round match at this year's Wimbledon due to a back injury. Although the issue is not extremely worrying, Badosa called it a 'delicate site' and that she's been seeing a doctor for treatment.
She was scheduled to return during the US swing having initially traveled to Canada to play at in Montreal. Badosa was even pictured practicing alongside her good friend Sabalenka but pulled out before her first match on the eve of the tournament.
Later on, she stated that the pain was still uncomforting and it would be best to take some weeks off and rest and maintain her hope of returning to the courts very soon. Despite pulling out from Cincinnati too, Badosa still traveled there to accompany her boyfriend and ATP star Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The Greek No. 1 was celebrating his 25th birthday before the start of the tournament and practiced together with Grigor Dimitrov in the presence of coach Mark Philippoussis and Badosa. The Manhattan-born Spaniard has since made the journey to New York where she shared a photo of herself practicing inside Louis Armstrong stadium.
TV Host Blair Henley posted an update on X where she revealed that Badosa practiced with Petros who is Stefanos' younger brother, and shared positive feedback on the nature of her back injury, saying it is progressing well.
It's certainly good news for the 25-year-old whose injury-riddled campaign has seen her ranking take a significant hit in recent months. In the tournaments that she has played, she has recorded some strong results, making the quarterfinals or better in four tournaments.
The word at the moment is that she'll play at the US Open and it will be interesting to hear from Badosa when she speaks to the media in the coming days.
