Mirra Andreeva ended her preparations for the 2024 Australian Open with a very impressive victory at the Kooyong Classic.

Before playing the first major of the season, the young Russian played at the WTA 500 tournament in Brisbane, where she lost in the quarterfinals to Linda Noskova from the Czech Republic.

It was a historic clash as both players are teenagers, and the 16-year-old will be looking to create some more history in the Melbourne Park, and for that, she prepared with one more win.

The Russian didn't want to go into the season's first major with a loss, so she signed up for the Kooyong Classic, an exhibition in Melbourne, to play at least one more match before heading to the main draw action in Melbourne.

In her match at the Kooyong Classic, the teenager took on Danielle Collins, who has had a lot of success in Australia before, reaching the Australian Open final in 2022.

The first set of their match was a close contest, with both players showing their serving as well as returning qualities. Both were up by a break at one point, but neither of the players managed to capitalize on that one-break advantage.

As a result, the opening set was decided in a tie-break, which once again, featured plenty of mini-breaks. Andreeva didn't panic when things were not going her way, and she won the tie-break 7-5 to take the opening set.

After the first-set win, Andreeva kept working towards the win also in the second set, and this time her performance was even more imposing, saving four break points, while using two of her chances to break.

Thanks to that, the 16-year-old won the match 7-6(5), 6-1 to wrap up her 2024 Australian Open preparations with a victory over a former finalist at the event.
