Paula Badosa is playing some really solid tennis right now, but will that continue against an in-form Amanda Anisimova at the 2024 Australian Open?

This is a superb matchup on paper between two really talented players who both like to play aggressively. It's well-known how Anisimova likes to play her matches, and that brings us plenty of great points in a matchup where both will mostly trade blows from the baseline.

She's been away from tennis for a while and, in her own words, is very motivated about this comeback. It's the same for Badosa, who spent much of 2023 injured but is very motivated to make a strong comeback, and it's been going very well so far, for both.

This will be the first time they play each other on the WTA Tour, so let's see what might happen in this highly-anticipated third-round match up in the Melbourne Park.

Head-to-head:

We never saw them play against each other, but we can sort of anticipate what might happen here. The Spanish player has been playing really well so far, winning two matches in straight sets, and the theme in both was good serving and good baseline play.

Those are linked and will be crucial against the American, who will likely attack any weaker second serve. Anisimova is a typical baseliner capable of hitting any corner of the court.

It's mostly hit-and-miss but good enough to beat most players. She, too, won both of her matches in straight sets and will look to keep it going.

Prediction:

It's a pretty tricky match to predict because both can win. It will come down to who has the better day because they are very close. Badosa has the better serve, at least the way she's been serving recently, but Anisimova can also serve well.

The American is, to me, the better hitter overall, so if she finds her best tennis, I think she can win this matchup, but I'll back the more consistent Badosa to win.

Prediction: Paula Badosa to win in three sets.
