The 2023 Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open runs from March 8th to 19th and we already know the draw for the WTA 1000 event.
Last year, Iga Swiatek captured the Sunshine Double and so she's the defending champion in Indian Wells. Like all the first 32-seeded players, world no. 1 has a BYE in the first round and so she'll jump into the action from the second round.
In the second round, the young Pole will take on Claire Liu or Alison Van Uytvanck. In the third round, she can possibly meet a Grand Slam champion, as the 32nd-seeded Bianca Andreescu will start against Peyton Stearns or a qualifier.
The fifth-seeded Caroline Garcia also doesn't have an easy draw. The French player will begin against Tamara Korpatsch or the 2022 Australian Open finalist, Danielle Collins, and in the third round, she can meet the 2021 US Open finalist, Leylah Fernandez.
The fourth-seeded Ons Jabeur, who is returning to action will play against Maryna Zanevska or Lauren Davis as the reigning Wimbledon champion, Elena Rybakina will start against one of the seeded players. The Kazakh will meet either Sloane Stephens or Sofia Kenin.
The seventh-seeded Maria Sakkari will clash with Katie Volynets or Shelby Rogers, while the third-seeded Jessica Pegula will play against Camila Giorgi or a qualifier. Her doubles partner, and the sixth-seeded Coco Gauff will play against one of the qualifiers as she's yet to know who she can meet.
The second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka, who is the most recent major winner, will play against Evgeniya Rodina or Alize Cornet in the second round, and in the third round, she can meet the 29th-seeded Donna Vekic, who recently won her first title in two years.
