From June 25th to July 1st, players will meet at the tournament that doesn't really have a long history on the WTA Tour. The Bad Homburg Open was first held in 2021, with Angelique Kerber winning the tournament, and one year later, Caroline Garcia triumphed in the German city.
Neither of the previous two champions will compete in 2023 as the German player has been away from the WTA Tour for quite some time as she recently gave birth to her first child and the defending champion from France simply elected not to play the tournament.
But one player has made the decision to compete in Bad Homburg and it certainly made all fans in the city happy. Iga Swiatek will make her appearance at the tournament, as fans will want to see if her bakery serves another bagel to one of the opponents, even though it's something that she doesn't like to talk about.
Although the young Pole will be certainly the biggest favourite to win in Bad Homburg, and also the only Top 10 player competing at the tournament, there will be three more Grand Slam champions that will challenge her.
One of them is last year's finalist Bianca Andreescu, who is also the 2019 US Open champion, two-time major winner and former world no. 1, Victoria Azarenka is another dangerous name on the entry list, with 2017 US Open winner Sloane Stephens completing the line-up of Grand Slam champions.
But on the grass courts, many players can surprise, especially those with a good serve. For that reason, Liudmila Samsonova and Ekaterina Alexandrova will be surely players to keep an eye on, but so will be the likes of Donna Vekic, Alycia Parks, and Leylah Fernandez.
