From June 25th to July 1st the grass-court preparations will peak at the 2023 Bad Homburg Open and the draw was released.
Held without any of the previous two champions, the WTA 250 event in the German city promises to showcase some of the best talents on the WTA Tour. Won by Angelique Kerber in 2021 and Caroline Garcia in 2022, there will be many players that will try to add their name to the list.
But no one will be as big a favourite as the current World No. 1, Iga Swiatek. The young Pole is determined to improve her grass-court qualities, and the 2023 Bad Homburg Open will present her with a good chance to do that.
But already the first match will be very difficult for the 22-year-old. She will play against the home player Tatjana Maria, who is one of very few grass-court specialists, having reached the Wimbledon semifinals in 2022.
Should Swiatek win, she'll have a much easier second-round match, facing one of the qualifiers in the second round. Another interesting first-round match, and one of the Pole's possible quarterfinal opponents will be Alycia Parks or Leylah Fernandez as the two will fight for the spot in the second round.
Except for Swiatek, there is no other Top 10 player as Liudmila Samsonova is the second seed in Bad Homburg, starting against Viktoriya Tomova from Belarus in the first round of the competition.
Donna Vekic will also play at the tournament as the third seed. The Croatian will start against Emma Navarro from the United States, and in the second round, she can meet either Martina Trevisan from Italy or experienced Alize Cornet.
