The 2022 WTA Finals in Fort Worth, Texas, will bring together the eight best WTA singles players and eight best doubles teams, and the event will run from October 31st to November 7th.
Following the suspension of the events in China, the 2022 WTA Finals were moved to Fort Worth's Dickies Arena so that players wouldn't have to travel far from the year's last WTA 1000 tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, and Ons Jabeur all earned spots in the year-end competition, in which they will compete for $1,680,000 in prize money for an undefeated champion.
In tota, $5,000,000 will be distributed to players at the event, and the distribution of prize money is quite unusual for players, who are used to receiving increasing amounts for every win at an event.
Jessica Pegula, Caroline Garcia, Daria Kasatkina, Aryna Sabalenka, and Maria Sakkari will also compete in Fort Worth, and all players will receive 125 ranking points for each match played in the round-robin stage, plus an additional 125 points for winning.
Just for participating, players will receive $110,000 for each match that they will play. That means that unless they get injured, all players will leave Fort Worth with $330,000 and 375 WTA ranking points.
That amount can significantly increase with each match won, as not only the points won but also the prize money doubles with every win, meaning that on top of the $110,000 participation fee, players also receive $110,000 for every round-robin win.
Then, 330 points and $420,000 will be awarded to the two semi-finalists that win their matches, and the two finalists will compete for an additional 420 points and $820,000 in the final of the tournament.
The structure is the same for the players competing in the doubles competition, and even though the points awarded are the same, the prize money is significantly lower.
