The WTA year-end competition will end the 2022 season, as the WTA Finals will take place from October 31st until November 7th in Fort Worth, Texas.

Eight players that performed the best throughout the 2022 season qualified for the WTA Finals and now they know the round-robin groups they will have to fight in.

Last year's champion, Garbine Muguruza, is not in Fort Worth to defend her title, and this year's WTA Finals are also the first in history without more than one Grand Slam champion.

This situation happened mostly because this year's Australian Open winner, Ashleigh Barty, retired from the sport, while Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina didn't earn points for her win at SW19, which means neither of these two players made it to the WTA Finals.

The only Grand Slam champion in the draw is the reigning World No. 1, Iga Swiatek, who leads the Tracy Austin Group. The young Pole will meet Coco Gauff, who she beat in this year's Roland Garros final, as well as No. 6 Caroline Garcia and No. 8 Daria Kasatkina.

In Nancy Richey Group, two-time Grand Slam finalist in 2022, Ons Jabeur leads the way with No. 3 Jessica Pegula joining her. No. 5 Maria Sakkari and no. 7 Aryna Sabalenka will also fight in this group for their spot in Final Four.

From each group, the two best players qualify for the semi-finals, in which the first player from Tracy Austin Group takes on second from Nancy Richey and vice versa.

None of the players competing have an experience of playing in the final of the WTA Finals. That's also because the year-end competition was not held in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

That also means that a new champion will be crowned at the WTA Finals, joining the list of legends such as Serena Williams, Martina Hingis, and Steffi Graf.

2022 WTA Finals Groups:

Tracy Austin Group Nancy Richey Group
1. Iga Swiatek 2. Ons Jabeur
4. Coco Gauff 3. Jessica Pegula
6. Caroline Garcia 5. Maria Sakkari
8. Daria Kasatkina 7. Aryna Sabalenka
