The 2022 Birmingham Classic will run from June 13th to 19th, and details of prize money have been announced.
This WTA 250 event follows the Nottingham Open and is the second WTA-level grass-court tournament to be played in the United Kingdom in the leadup to Wimbledon.
British tennis sensation Emma Raducnau was meant to headline the event, but she was hurt in Nottingham and had to withdraw. Simona Halep, Jelena Ostapenko, and Camila Giorgi are all part of the draw, which has already been released.
We are guaranteed some exciting matchups from a field that includes two-time former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and a handful of big hitters, like Dayana Yatremska, Petra Martic, and Shelby Rogers, who will look to impress on grass.
The players will also compete for their share of the prize money and points. This year, the total purse stands at $251,750, which is the base level for tournaments in this category.
The winner will receive a huge fraction of this amount, equaling $33,200, and the full 280 points. The runner-up at the 2022 Birmingham Classic will pocket $19,750 and be awarded 180 points.
Prize money distribution for this WTA 250 event will begin from the first round of the main draw. Players who lose at this stage will be compensated up to $2,725, but they will only get 1 point.
