The Parma Open is a clay-court tennis tournament held at the Tennis Club President in Parma, Italy. The tournament is also called the Emilia-Romagna Open, referring to the region in Italy where the event is held.
The Parma Open was first held in 2019 as an ATP Challenger event, and for the 2021 season, it hosted both WTA and ATP tournaments. That was because of scheduling difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused many tennis tournaments to be canceled or postponed.
Therefore, the Parma Open never returned to the men's calendar after that, but it remained in the women's schedule also for the 2022 season as a WTA 250 event. After that, both events continued as WTA 125 / ATP Challenger tournaments.
In the first-ever Parma Open, which was a men's competition, Tommy Robredo bested home player Federico Gaio, and in the following year, another Italian lost in the final, as Salvatore Caruso was outplayed by Frances Tiafoe, who was just starting his journey towards the Top 10 of the ATP Rankings at the time.
In 2021, when the tournament held both men's and women's Tour-level events for the only time in the same season, Americans dominated in Parma, as Coco Gauff won the women's event, while Sebastian Korda triumphed in the men's tournament.
Gauff was particularly successful in 2021, as she won not only the singles competition but also the doubles tournament, partnering with her friend Caty McNally to beat Darija Jurak and Andreja Klepac in the final of the doubles competition.
