Iga Swiatek was stunned by only 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Dubai Championships.

Andreeva is one of the youngest players on the WTA Tour. In fact, she's the highest-ranked teenager and the only teenager ranked inside of the Top 100. The next player younger than the Russian is Iva Jovic ranked 167th in the world.

The Russian teenager, on the other hand, is the World No. 14 player, and she will further improve her career high after the WTA 1000 event in Dubai. That's also thanks to her stunning win over Swiatek.

The Polish player was stopped in the Qatar Open semi-finals by Jelena Ostapenko, but she has once again returned to winning ways in Dubai. The WTA World No. 2 player beat Victoria Azarenka and Dayana Yastremska to reach the quarter-finals of the event.

Andreeva had to play one more match than her opponent, as she wasn't among the top eight seeded players. The Russian teenager bested Elina Avanesyan, Marketa Vondrousova, and Peyton Stearns, all without losing a set.

In the quarter-finals, she faced the biggest possible challenge at this event since the highest-ranked Aryna Sabalenka was already out of the tournament. The second-seeded Swiatek beat her when they met in Cincinnati last year, so both players knew what to expect this time.

Surprisingly, the teenager started the match better. Andreeva had a break point in the opening game, and after not using it, she saved three of her opponent's break chances in the following game. After that, the 17-year-old player was able to break and lead 2-1.

Andreeva then had to save another break point in the following game, but from that point, she was serving at an excellent level, losing only one more point on her serve in the remainder of the set.

On top of that, the teenager was able to break Swiatek's serve again to win the first set of the match 6-3. But the Polish player was ready to fight back. She broke first at the start of the second set, and after the first four games, she led 3-1.

Little did anybody at the Center Court in Dubai know that the fourth game of this match was also the last game Swiatek would win. Andreeva went on to win five consecutive games, winning 20 of the 25 points played.

She absolutely dominated against the second highest-ranked player on the WTA Tour to win 6-3, 6-3, reaching her maiden WTA 1000 semi-final. Her next opponent will be the winner of the match between two Grand Slam champions, Elena Rybakina and Sofia Kenin.

After the match, Andreeva admitted that she was nervous before taking on Swiatek, but she handled the situation extremely well to win in two sets.

"I was nervous before the match. I told myself I played great in our last match and I just need to keep playing aggressive. It wasn’t easy with all the fans. I think we were even. I had a lot of support."
