Emma Raducanu has finally addressed the dating rumors surrounding her and
Carlos Alcaraz after teaming up for this year's
US Open.
Raducanu and Alcaraz are two of the most exciting talents in the world of tennis. Like in every other sport, in tennis, there are two different worlds. One is that of the professional players and journalists, living on the Tour, and the other is that of the social media users, who observe their favorites from home, following all the storylines.
While the professional life on the Tour is mostly focused on tennis, discussing players' forehands, backhands, and winning streaks, that social media part of the sport is more focused on the personal stories.
Many fans love discussing possible dating rumors and stories, often finding out about certain relationships much earlier than it is made official. One example would be the now-ended relationship between Jannik Sinner and Anna Kalinskaya, which eagle-eyed tennis fans found out about thanks to a Sinner's picture with a fan, during which he was on a call with a certain "Anna."
One relationship that many of the fans would probably want to see happen is that of Alcaraz and Raducanu. Those rumors have been fueled ever since Raducanu once responded to a fake tweet, which made up a fake quote about their relationship.
The two have recently
teamed up for the mixed doubles at this year's US Open. Shortly after their team-up, both have spoken about it, with Raducanu discussing how it came to be in an interview with BBC Sport.
"He asked me earlier on in the year. I was very surprised and honored and obviously excited. And I just went through the formality of asking my coach. But of course, I’m gonna say yes."
The interviewer then proceeded to ask Raducanu a question she likely wouldn't face in a press conference after her match. The British player was asked whether she was aware of the dating rumors about herself and Alcaraz.
Raducanu was even told that some of the parody accounts on X (formerly Twitter) alleged that Alcaraz lost at the Qatar Open in Doha this year because of being sad about Raducanu's injury.
"No, not quite to that extent, but I'm glad the internet is having fun, and we're providing some entertainment for everyone."
Raducanu clearly took the rumors with a pinch of salt, but when talking about her relationship with Alcaraz, the former US Open champion showed how much she values their friendship.
"We go back a long way. And I think we both started getting to know each other a lot more in 2021, and when I had that run at Wimbledon… I think he won, like, in five sets in the first round or something."
"Ever since, we stayed in touch, and he’s done so well, obviously, since then, and continued winning… It’s been amazing to see. We were speaking and friends before anyone won anything."
