The race for the ATP No. 1 spot is closer than it has been for several months after Carlos Alcaraz cut the deficit to Jannik Sinner once again.
Carlos Alcaraz won last week's 2025 Queen's Club Championships, his second title at the Queen's Club. Jiri Lehecka pushed him hard in the final, but the Spaniard raised his level to triumph 7-5, 6-7, 6-2.
Sinner had a less successful week. Alexander Bublik produced a superb performance to defeat the Italian in the round of 16 at the Halle Open, stopping him from defending the title he claimed last year.
After the loss, Sinner admitted that playing so soon after his heartbreaking defeat in the 2025 Roland Garros final to Carlos Alcaraz was challenging for him. He could not convert three championship points in the fourth set before losing in a deciding set tiebreak.
Alcaraz's triumph at the Queen's Club means he is now on 9,300 points, 1,130 behind Sinner's 10,430. The Italian held a much more commanding lead until his three-month suspension and Alcaraz's recent form.
Jack Draper is back at No. 4 after reaching the semifinals of the Queen's Club Championships. He achieved that despite battling tonsillitis throughout the tournament, which is impressive.
Novak Djokovic was one of the players overtaken by Draper, falling to No. 5. As usual, the 24-time Grand Slam champion did not play at any tournaments before Wimbledon, preferring to go in fresh for SW19.
Taylor Fritz, now at No. 5, was the other player leapfrogged by Draper. The American could not back up his 2025 Stuttgart Open title success. He lost a tight match to the mercurial Corentin Moutet at the Queen's Club.
Tommy Paul was unable to defend his Queen's Club Championships title because of an injury. As a result, the 28-year-old slipped five positions to No. 13, providing a chance for others to take advantage.
Daniil Medvedev moved back into the Top 10, rising from No. 11 to No. 9. The 2021 US Open men's singles champion finished as the runner-up to Alexander Bublik at the Halle Open, narrowly missing out on a first title since May 2023.
Holger Rune, a quarterfinalist at the Queen's Club last week, jumped one place to No. 8. Ben Shelton remained at No. 10, and Alex de Minaur and Frances Tiafoe sit at No. 11 and No. 12, respectively.
Alexander Bublik's reward for winning the Halle title was surging 15 spots from No. 45 to No. 30. The Kazakhstani's stunning run in Halle showed that if he finds his best tennis, he is a serious contender for a deep run at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.
2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic is back in the Top 100 after his title run at the Nottingham Open, a Challenger Tour event. After that impressive effort, the 36-year-old rose 16 places from No. 101 to No. 85.
Other changes to the ATP rankings included Jiri Lehecka climbing five positions to No. 25 after finishing as the runner-up to Alcaraz at the Queen's Club and Grigor Dimitrov falling outside the Top 20 at No. 21.
