Novak Djokovic might have only two more chances left to win his 25th Grand Slam title, at least according to some of his former opponents.
Djokovic is still chasing history. In fact, he is chasing history at every event that he enters, because the next title will be
the Serbian's 100th career triumph. He would join the legendary company of only two other men who have managed to win that many titles, Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer.
On top of that, every Grand Slam that Djokovic enters gives him a chance to win his 25th Grand Slam title. Something that no tennis player has ever managed to do on the singles court. The Serbian is within touching distance of a historic feat, but that has been the case for over a year now.
Djokovic's last major win came at the 2023
US Open, and since then, he has failed to add another major to his collection. The 37-year-old will have high hopes this year, as it might be the last year that will see him have a chance at winning a Grand Slam.
Two of Djokovic's former opponents,
John Isner, who played the Serbian 12 times and even beat him twice, and
Steve Johnson, who lost his only match against Djokovic, discussed his chances during the recent episode of their Nothing Major Podcast.
According to Isner, Djokovic might only have two more chances to win a Grand Slam. This year's
Wimbledon, especially because of his great serve, and the US Open.
"I hope I'm wrong here, but it seems like [Novak Djokovic] has two chances left in his career to win a Grand Slam, and that's at Wimbledon in the US Open. He's getting older, you know how well he takes care of his body, but it just seems like as far as his career goes... and the question was his level in Miami, well, if he can serve like that, then he absolutely can win Wimbledon."
"One match he served like 83% first serves... you're not going to keep that level up, but if he can serve over 65% first serves at Wimbledon, he can certainly win that tournament this year."
"It just seems like 2025 is his last opportunity to win a Slam. It's either going to happen at Wimbledon or the US Open. I hope I'm wrong. It'd be amazing to see him turn back the clock in 2026 and win a Slam, but it just seems like that."
Steve Johnson agreed with Isner, according to him, Djokovic's highest chances are at Wimbledon. The former American player thinks that the 24-time major winner will have the lowest chance of winning another Grand Slam at Roland Garros.
"If [Novak Djokovic] has a chance, I'd say Wimbledon, just from a physical standpoint. After two weeks, not grinding it out on the clay, I think. We've seen it twice this year, Australian Open and Miami, where he just runs out of gas, which is outlandish to say, like, now that I'm saying it out loud for a guy that's never feel like he's been tired in his life."
"So I don't think the French Open is going to be for him and I would say Wimbledon would be his best chance if he can. He just needs to get to the end of the two weeks with a bit more, you know, juice in his step."
