Lorenzo
Musetti’s Christmas tree is getting bigger this year as he and his girlfriend, Veronica
Confalonieri, welcome their second child.
Confalonieri gave birth to a baby boy on November 29, a year and eight months after their first child, Ludovico, was born. Musetti has been dating her since 2022. He announced the news through a social media post on Saturday, also revealing the
newborn’s name — Leandro.
Musetti enjoyed
a standout season on the tennis court this year. He racked up 45 wins and reached
the
ATP Top 10 for the first time, climbing to a career-high ranking of World
No. 6 in June.
He reached three finals but could not convert any of them into a title during the
season. Still, he’ll surely be happier to bid 2025 goodbye as part of a family
of four.
"Love
multiplies," he captioned his Instagram post about Leandro’s birth.
The World
No. 8 notably debuted in the
ATP Finals this year. He qualified for the tournament
after Novak Djokovic, who defeated him in the Athens final, withdrew. He did
not make it to the semifinals but registered a first victory in the event.
After a
straight-set loss to American Taylor Fritz in his opener, he put on a spirited
performance to beat Aussie Alex de Minaur in a tough three-setter. However, his
hopes of reaching the final-four were dashed by
year-end World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.
Lorenzo Musetti is knocking on the door at Grand Slams
Musetti has
two ATP titles to his name. He won both in the year 2022, with triumphs in
Hamburg (ATP 500) and Naples (ATP 250). Since then, he has played in six finals
but failed to add silverware to his trophy cabinet.
He lost his
first final at the 2024 Queen’s Club Championship at the hands of Tommy Paul of
the USA. A few weeks later, Francisco Cerundolo denied him a trophy in Umag. He
then suffered an upset in the Chengdu Open title clash, losing to Shang Juncheng
as the top seed.
Earlier
this year, he was a set away from a Masters 1000 triumph, but Alcaraz produced
a comeback to take the cup home. He met with another disappointing result in
Chengdu in September as he faltered against Alejandro Tabilo in the final.
Musetti has
also been knocking on the door at the Grand Slams. In 2024, he produced
a run to the semifinals at Wimbledon. This year, he made the semifinals at
Roland-Garros and quarterfinals at the US Open.
Ludovico has
been a quiet source of inspiration behind the Italian’s ascent to the ATP Top
10 this year. With baby Leandro now joining the party, Musetti can aim for
higher accolades by driving joy and motivation from a bigger fanbase at home.
