Serena Williams generated much fan interest by revealing that she had been on a tennis court with her youngest daughter, Adira.
Over three years have passed since
Williams retired from professional tennis at the 2022 US Open. It was one of the most emotional moments in tennis history, and arguably the most emotional ever seen at the season's final Grand Slam.
Intermittent rumors have circulated since about Williams making a comeback, and the 23-time Grand Slam champion did not deny them for a while. However, she now seems set on remaining retired and finding fulfillment in other areas.
Williams has spoken before about how trying to be the best mom is a goal. The 44-year-old shares two daughters with her husband Alexis Ohanian; Alexis, who goes by her middle name Olympia, and Adira.
Earlier this year, Williams posted a photo on Instagram of her holding Adira while on a tennis court. It was accompanied by a humorous message about how she never thought she would need to do that in doubles.
"I never thought I would have to carry my doubles partner."
The tennis legend let Adira have her own racket when they returned to the court a few days ago. She shared a series of photos of them, with the two-year-old getting experience of trying to hit with her famous mother.
Williams' message with that Instagram post heartwarmingly said that she was sharing her passion for tennis with Adira. After so many years at the top of the
WTA Tour, her love for tennis was never likely to evaporate.
"This is me sharing my passion for tennis with my youngest daughter."
Serena Williams made fascinating comments about Carlos Alcaraz
In an appearance at the Princess of Asturias Awards, Serena Williams spoke about how much she enjoys watching Carlos Alcaraz and that she always roots for him when the Spaniard plays.
The seven-time Wimbledon women's singles champion was then asked
whether Alcaraz could break Novak Djokovic's records, who holds the most weeks at No. 1 and has won the most Grand Slam singles titles in the men's game.
Although Alcaraz has already secured an incredible six Grand Slams at 22, that is still 18 fewer than Djokovic's 24. The Serbian's tally is a joint record he holds across men's and women's tennis with Margaret Court.
Despite the extensive work ahead for Alcaraz to surpass Djokovic, Williams does not think it is impossible. She mentioned that few thought anyone would better Pete Sampras's total of 14 Grand Slams before Roger Federer did it.
Rafael Nadal then overtook Federer's total of 20 Majors before Novak Djokovic moved ahead of his two most significant rivals. The 38-year-old Serbian continues to play at a high level, but has not claimed a Grand Slam since the 2023 US Open.
Williams mentioned that records are there to be broken. She would have held the record for most Grand Slam singles titles won had she not lost her last four Major finals. Missing that opportunity might be Williams's most significant regret.
