Jannik Sinner gave a short and direct answer when asked about those who are bothered by his decision not to play at the 2025 Davis Cup Finals.
Team Italy's chances of winning a third consecutive title took a massive blow when Sinner announced he will not feature in next month's finals. The ATP world No. 2 was instrumental in his country's 2023 and 2024 triumphs.
Sinner said he will not play at the Davis Cup Finals, scheduled from November 18th to 23rd, because he wants to use that extra week as preparation for the 2026 Australian Open in January.
Some disapproved of that decision. The most notable response was from fellow Italian tennis legend Nicola Pietrangeli. The 1959 and 1960 French Open champion thinks it is disrespectful to their country, and continues a trend of athletes caring more about money.
Sinner was asked about the reaction at the 2025 Vienna Open. Rather than issuing a lengthy response that could begin a war of words, the 24-year-old said he respected other opinions and did not want to speak more about the subject.
"I can say that I accept all the criticism, but I’ve already said everything and I have nothing more to add."
Although it was a wise, diplomatic answer that avoided enflaming the situation any further, Sinner did not seem to care much about outside noise, something he probably learned to do during his high-profile doping case.

Jannik Sinner gives an important scheduling update

Rumors had circulated about Sinner skipping next week's 2025 Paris Masters and only using the ongoing 2025 Vienna Open as his preparation for the 2025 ATP Finals, a tournament he won on home soil last year.
Sinner ended that speculation by confirming he will appear in the French capital. With the off-season close, this year's Wimbledon champion wants to push himself hard and finish another successful year as well as possible.
"After Vienna, I’ll play in Paris. The season is almost over, just three tournaments left — it’s time to give the final push."
Despite being an outstanding indoor hard court player, Sinner has never won the Paris Masters. Carlos Alcaraz has not triumphed at the event either, giving the Top Two extra incentive for next week's edition.

Sinner made a sublime start at the Vienna Open

The four-time Grand Slam champion began his Vienna Open campaign by defeating Daniel Altmaier 6-0, 6-2 in 58 minutes after only losing four points on serve. That was Sinner's swiftest victory of the season.
Speaking afterward, Sinner acknowledged he played particularly well in the opening set, but is not getting overconfident or losing focus in conditions where powerful servers can be very dangerous.
"I feel like in the first set everything was working very well. On indoor courts, you have to be very careful. If your opponent starts to serve well, it’s very difficult to break. But I’m very happy about today’s performance, starting the tournament in a very positive way, not only gamewise but feeling wise."
Sinner may be impossible for anyone to stop if he keeps playing at that level in the subsequent rounds.
