Emma Raducanu provided a health update after struggling with an injury at the 2025 Strasbourg Open.
Despite winning three matches at the Italian Open in Rome, Raducanu still chose to travel to Strasbourg to compete at the WTA 500 event in Strasbourg. It's a tournament held in the week prior to Roland Garros, and it started well for the Brit.
Raducanu won her first-round match against Daria Kasatkina, easily beating the Australian player 6-1, 6-3. In the second round, the 2021 US Open champion played against Danielle Collins, but that was a much more challenging match for her.
Raducanu won the first set of the match, but as it went on, she started struggling, both to outplay her opponent but also with her health. The 22-year-old even sought medical attention, but that didn't change the eventual outcome of the match.
Collins won the match 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, reaching the quarter-finals, and later also the semi-finals of the tournament after Anna Kalinskaya withdrew prior to their quarter-final meeting.
Following her loss to Collins, Raducanu spoke about her health struggles. The British player admitted that she started feeling pain in her back already after her win over Kasatkina.
"Well, I felt it after the first round and then yesterday I just tried to manage it. I got treatment but, I mean I was pretty stiff and sore. I've had bad back problems before, at the start of the year I was out for like a few months because of it."
Despite struggling with the physical issue, Raducanu chose to complete her second-round match. After the match, however, she admitted that she was annoyed by the fact that she started feeling pain again, especially since she has experienced similar kind of problem before.
"Yeah, it’s annoying, it’s frustrating. I get these spasms, and they’re quite intense and can last quite a long time. I’ll just try to make it better."

Who will Emma Raducanu play at the 2025 French Open?

If Raducanu wants to succeed at the upcoming French Open, she might need to be 100% healthy, because she might face one of the most successful players in the history of the event.
Raducanu will play against Xinyu Wang in the first round of the tournament, and if she succeeds, the Brit could take on four-time Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek, who will start her tournament against Rebecca Sramkova.
The 2025 Roland Garros will run from May 25th, with the women's singles final being played on June 7th. Raducanu has competed at the event only once before, in 2022.
The British player won her first match on her debut, beating Linda Noskova in three sets, but she then lost to Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the second round of the tournament.
