Amanda Anisimova won the biggest trophy of her tennis career at the 2025 Qatar Open in Doha after beating Jelena Ostapenko in the final.

The 2025 season is a season of proving that anything is possible and that players should be able to prioritize their lives over their careers. Recently, Belinda Bencic joined the club of successful mothers when she won the Abu Dhabi Open.

Now, Amanda Anisimova showed that it's completely fine to take a break from the sport and return later. The American player stepped away in 2023, and she returned at the start of the 2024 season. One year later, the 23-year-old American player managed to win the biggest title of her tennis career.

Anisimova played some inspired tennis in Doha. She beat Victoria Azarenka, Paula Badosa, Leylah Fernandez, Marta Kostyuk, and Ekaterina Alexandrova to reach the final at the WTA 1000 event.

However, her final opponent also recorded some impressive wins to play in the final. Ostapenko bested Aoi Ito, Liudmila Samsonova, Jasmine Paolini, Ons Jabeur, and she even stunned Iga Swiatek.

The final match was a proper heavy-hitting contest, as both of these players are known for hitting the ball hard. Early in the final, the match was suspended because of rain.

Players returned to the courts at 2-2, and Anisimova handled the moments after that better. The 23-year-old player was able to break her opponent's serve twice, while she was broken only once, to win the first set of the match 6-4.

Ostapenko greatly struggled on her serve in the first set. She made a total of five double faults, giving plenty of free points to her opponent on a regular basis.

The Latvian's serving performance didn't improve in the second set. The score was tied at 3-3 after six games, and soon the match was again suspended because of rain.

Again, Anisimova handled the moments after returning to the court better. She was able to win the last three games of the match, triumphing 6-4, 6-3, to lift the biggest trophy of her tennis career. It was a big win for Anisimova, who hit 13 forehand and 13 backhand winners in the match.

Thanks to this victory, the American player will also make her debut in the Top 20 of the WTA Rankings. She will improve by 23 positions, and on Monday, Anisimova will be ranked 18th in the world.

Naturally, she was incredibly happy about her win. During the trophy ceremony, Anisimova thanked her team, saying it wouldn't be possible to win without them.

"To be able to lift the trophy here for my first WTA 1000 is super special. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my team.. I love you guys. Without you this wouldn’t have been possible."
