The 2025
Rotterdam Open has one of the strongest draws when it comes to the
ATP 500 tournaments, and this year didn't disappoint either.
The Rotterdam Open, which is also known as the ABN AMRO Open, is one of the few indoor hard-court tournaments held in Europe in between the Australian Open and the Sunshine Double in the United States.
Many European players sign up to play in these tournaments, and the event in Rotterdam has historically always attracted a very strong field. That applies also to the 2025 edition of the tournament, which will run from February 3rd until 9th.
Jannik Sinner was supposed to be the top seed in Rotterdam, but
he withdrew from the tournament. The tournament was marked by withdrawals also from players like Sebastian Korda, Grigor Dimitrov, and Jack Draper.
Still, even without those names in the
draw, it's incredibly strong. The top seed in Rotterdam is
Carlos Alcaraz, but he was handed a nightmare draw.
In the first round, the Spaniard will have to play against home player
Botic van de Zandschulp. Alcaraz remembers that name really well, as the Dutch player beat him at the US Open this year.
But that's not the only reason why the four-time Grand Slam champion's draw is brutal. Should he pass the first-round test, Alcaraz would very likely have to play against
Felix Auger-Aliassime.
The Canadian is probably the biggest specialist on the indoor hard courts on the ATP Tour, and his level always massively improves in these conditions. In the first round, Auger-Aliassime will play against one of the qualifiers.
On the opposite side of the draw, the second-seeded
Daniil Medvedev wasn't given any easier path to the trophy. Already in the first round, the former ATP World No. 1 player will have to take on a three-time Grand Slam champion,
Stan Wawrinka.
However, Medvedev's possible second-round opponent is much more favorable than Alcaraz's. The Russian player would take on the winner of the match between Mees Rottgering and a qualifier.
In the quarter-finals, however, Medvedev's draw gets challenging again. The 2021 US Open champion could play against
Stefanos Tsitsipas, who
accepted a wild card to compete in Rotterdam.
The Greek player is the sixth seed, and he will start against one of the qualifiers. His second-round opponent could be
Matteo Berrettini, who will play against
Tallon Griekspoor in the second round of the tournament.
The draw is really star-studded, and there are many exciting first-round matchups. For example, the fifth-seeded
Holger Rune will play against
Lorenzo Sonego. The Danish player could meet Alcaraz in the quarter-finals.
Andrey Rublev is the fourth seed, and he will play against
Zhizhen Zhang in the first round. On the other hand, the eighth-seeded
Hubert Hurkacz will start against Flavio Cobolli.
