The 2025 Rio Open will be the second tournament of the South American swing, and the prize money and ranking points breakdown has been released.

World No. 2 Alexander Zverev is the highest-ranked player on this year's Rio Open entry list. He usually plays on hardcourts in February but has decided to experiment by competing on clay in Buenos Aires and Rio this month.

Teenage prodigy Joao Fonseca, Holger Rune, and Lorenzo Musetti are among the other players on the entry list. There had been a danger of the Rio Open being overshadowed by the Qatar Open occurring the same week because it has Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic on its entry list.

However, the organizers in Brazil have ensured that its ATP 500 event is strong and can attract the attention of fans worldwide. The passion that South American fans bring to tournaments also adds another dimension to the Rio Open, which runs from February 17th to 23rd.

Although the prize money at the Qatar Open is slightly more significant than in Rio, the event in Brazil still holds its own and offers players the chance to win big amounts if they can go far in the tournament. In total, $2,396,115 will be distributed in Rio de Janeiro.

The 2025 Rio Open champion will receive $448,090 and 500 ranking points for winning the prestigious event. In last year's final, Sebastian Baez defeated Mariano Navone in an all-Argentinian affair.

Despite his hammering in the final, reaching that stage was still a breakthrough moment for Navone. Had that achievement been this year instead of in 2024, he would have received $241,100 and 330 ranking points.

Cameron Norrie and Francisco Cerundolo lost in last year's semifinal. Norrie was defending his title from 2023 when he shocked Carlos Alcaraz in the final after a riveting battle in front of the fans in Rio.

The two defeated semifinalists at the 2025 Rio Open will receive $128,490 and 200 ranking points, which would be enough for several players in the draw to move swiftly up the rankings.

The prize money drops from six figures to five figures for players who lose in the quarterfinals or earlier. However, $65,645 and 100 ranking points are guaranteed for the men who reach at least the quarterfinals in Rio.

The men who make the round of 16 will receive $35,040 and 50 ranking points. No ranking points are be given to those who fall at the first hurdle in ATP 500 tournaments, but they will still have $18,690 added to their bank accounts.

In recent years, Alcaraz has been the most significant attraction at the Rio Open. It would be foolish to argue that his absence from this year's event is not a blow because he may be the most entertaining player on the planet.

However, the 2025 entry list is strong and can withstand his loss. The number of players who choose to play at a clay-court tournament in South America between hard-court events in Australia and the U.S. is a testament to how popular the Rio Open is.

Hopefully, the players involved this year do the tournament justice when it begins on February 17th.
