The 2025 Munich Open is held during the same week as the Barcelona Open, and the entry list is superb.
This year's event in Munich has been upgraded to ATP 500 status. That undoubtedly helped the tournament organizers attract more top players, which will boost ticket sales and create more excitement.
Jan Lennard Struff won the 2024 Munich Open. At 33, he became the third-oldest ATP champion ever, making it one of the season's most emotional moments. That feeling was heightened since he achieved it on home soil in Germany.
Unsurprisingly, Struff is on this year's entry list. He will need to pull off some heroics to win back-to-back titles because of the number of top players set to feature, but he can take confidence from beating Taylor Fritz in last year's final.
Fritz is once again on the entry list for the Munich Open. His run to the final last year was one of several impressive achievements from the American in 2024, including finishing as the runner-up at the US Open and ATP Finals.
Although he was uncomfortable on clay for much of his career, Fritz made a breakthrough on the dirt last year. The world No. 4 has a chance to attain even better results when the clay court swing begins.
German fans will have an opportunity to watch their favorite home favorite, Alexander Zverev, in action if he is fit. The world No. 2 was the 2017 and 2018 champion in Munich, but has not secured the title since triumphing almost seven years ago.
Zverev could become the ATP world No. 1 during the clay court swing. Jannik Sinner will not return from his suspension after settling his case with the World Anti-Doping Agency until the Italian Open in May.
Unfortunately for Zverev, he has not grasped the opportunity since Sinner's suspension began on February 9th. The 2025 Australian Open runner-up did not get past the quarterfinal at February's Argentina Open, Rio Open, and Mexican Open.
That was followed by failing to win a match at the 2025 Indian Wells Open. Zverev now needs strong results to take Sinner's place at the summit before he returns to action on home soil in Rome.
Ben Shelton, who recently revealed he has a girlfriend, was another man who made improvements on clay in 2024. This year's Australian Open semifinalist had never played on the surface before the start of his professional career a few years ago.
Shelton won the 2024 Houston Open and looked more at ease throughout the European clay court swing as well. He is on the entry list for the Munich Open, adding further to the tournament's outstanding field.
Denis Shapovalov is another notable name on the entry list. In February, the Canadian secured the most significant title of his career at the 2025 Dallas Open and hopes to build on that success throughout the season.
Felix Auger-Aliassime, Gael Monfils, Hubert Hurkacz, and Matteo Berrettini are some of the other players on the entry list for the Munich Open.
