The 2025 Miami Open will be the fourth WTA 1000 tournament of the season but the second combined with ATP players. The entry list for the women's singles has been released.
This year's main draw at the Miami Open will run from March 18th until March 30th. Almost the entire month is taken up with the 2025 Indian Wells Open and the event in Miami, completing what is known as the Sunshine Double.
How comfortable the WTA and ATP stars feel in Miami means the level of tennis at the tournament is usually superb. The outstanding women's entry list makes that even more likely.
When the Miami Open starts in a few weeks, Aryna Sabalenka may not be No. 1 anymore, depending on results before then. By the 26-year-old's standards, her Middle Eastern swing was not great, but the few points the Belarusian was defending helped her stay at the top.
The three-time Grand Slam champion lost in the round of 16 at last year's tournament in Miami, falling to Anhelina Kalinina, who produced a great performance to defeat her.
Sabalenka has never won the Miami Open. She has bad memories from last year's tournament because her ex-boyfriend Konstantin Koltsov died after an apparent suicide during the tournament.
Elena Rybakina is on the 2025 entry list and will play her first match at the venue since losing last year's final to Danielle Collins, who won her first WTA 1000 tournament in Florida.
There has been much attention on Rybakina since her former coach Stefano Vukov was suspended by the WTA Tour for mistreating the 25-year-old, even though Rybakina, who wants him on her team again, insists the Croatian never did this.
Coco Gauff will hope to respond strongly in Indian Wells and Miami after a terrible Middle Eastern swing. She could not win a match at the 2025 Qatar Open or the 2025 Dubai Championships, losing to McCartney Kessler in Dubai.
The world No. 3 reached the semifinals of last year's Indian Wells Open and the round of 16 at the Miami Open during the same month. Playing in front of a home crowd might help her find form again.
Iga Swiatek was the 2024 Indian Wells Open champion but lost in the round of 16 at the 2024 Miami Open to Ekaterina Alexandrova. She will hope to do much better than that this year.
Fans in Miami will watch Madison Keys for the second time since her incredible run to the 2025 Australian Open title if she is fit for the Sunshine Swing. She withdrew from the Qatar Open and Dubai Championships with an injury and cannot play at the ATX Open in Austin because of limits on Top 10 players at WTA 250 events.
Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka is also on the entry list. However, it is unclear if she will play after missing the Middle Eastern Swing with an abdominal injury that forced her to retire from her Australian Open third-round match against Belinda Bencic.
The entry list also includes Mirra Andreeva, Qatar Open champion Amanda Anisimova, Emma Raducanu, Paula Badosa, and Ons Jabeur.
