The 2025 Guangzhou Open is scheduled for the penultimate week before the 2025 WTA Finals, from October 20th to 26th. Its prize money and ranking points have been unveiled.
This year's tournament in Guangzhou could be a late-season gem. Despite being a WTA 250 event, many popular players are on the entry list, including Alexandra Eala, one of 2025's breakout stars.
If Eala plays near the level that saw her beat Iga Swiatek during a memorable run to the 2025 Miami Open semifinal, she has a great chance of winning the Guangzhou Open. The Filipina had championship points against Maya Joint at June's 2025 Eastbourne Open.
Donna Vekic, Katerina Siniakova, Tatjana Maria, and Alycia Parks are among the others who signed up. That should provide enough star power to keep fans engaged and avoid feeling fatigue after a lengthy year.
This year's Guangzhou Open has confirmed a total prize money commitment of $275,094, and players will also battle to win the most ranking points in their attempts to finish with a high year-end ranking.
The 2025 Guangzhou Open champion will receive $36,300 and 250 ranking points. Olga Danilovic won last year's iteration, but the Serbian, who has not played since the 2025 US Open, did not enter this year's entry list.
$21,484 and 163 points are the guaranteed rewards for the losing finalist. Caroline Dolehide missed a chance to win her maiden WTA singles title against Danilovic almost 12 months ago. She also lost the 2023 Guadalajara Open final against Maria Sakkari.
Siniakova and Lucia Bronzetti were last year's defeated semifinalists. Danilovic was locked in a close battle with Siniakova at 4-6, 6-4, 4-3 before the Czech retired from the match with a physical issue. She would collect $11,970 and 98 points for replicating that achievement.
Rising Spanish star Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, who is also on the 2025 entry list, was among those eliminated in the quarterfinals. All four beaten quarterfinalists at this month's iteration will leave Guangzhou with $6,820 and 54 points.
$4,470 and 30 points will be handed to the players who reach the round of 16 without going any further. $3,110 and one ranking point is the smaller reward for those who lose in the opening round.
Organizers in Guangzhou will hope their event is not overshadowed by the 2025 Japan Open, which runs simultaneously. As a WTA 500 tournament, it has more higher-ranked players committed and a higher prize money pot.
Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, Jasmine Paolini, and Naomi Osaka are among those on the Japan Open entry list. It also has the possible added intrigue of players needing points to qualify for the 2025 WTA Finals.
Coco Gauff booked her place at the WTA Finals with a win against Belinda Bencic at the China Open. The 21-year-old mostly qualified because of her outstanding clay court swing, where she won the French Open and finished as the runner-up at the Italian Open and Madrid Open.
Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Amanda Anisimova, and Madison Keys are the other qualified players. The Japan Open could be crucial in deciding the remaining spots.
