Alexander Zverev injured his knee in the match against Cameron Norrie at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, and it seems that it may be more serious than initially expected.
The German player fell in the match against Norrie at SW19, after which he required a medical timeout. He continued the match and even won it; however, it came at a price. He revealed that he had knee pain after the match, but he wasn't sure what the issue was.
An X-ray the following day revealed a knee injury that wasn't so severe that he couldn't play against Taylor Fritz. He played a really solid match, taking a 2-0 lead against Fritz, but he still wasn't able to cross the finish line victoriously, losing in five sets.
He openly admitted that he was on one leg during that match, which signaled that something was really wrong. Zverev then went on to explain what the X-ray said and was optimistic about recovering quickly, but apparently, the injury could be worse than that.
His brother, Mischa Zverev, provided an update to Amazon Prime after the match, admitting that Alexander saw the doctor again. They pulled a significant amount of fluid from his knee, which shouldn't be there if the injury was as they initially thought.
His brother then confirmed that Zverev would see a doctor back home in Monaco to assess the situation further, but if there is significant damage, then his Olympics participation might be out of reach. He won the Gold Medal at the last Olympics.
"Sascha saw a doctor again. He took 40 milliliters of fluid from his knee. Unfortunately, there is now a suspicion of something worse. Tomorrow, he'll see the doctor again at home in Monaco."
"More detailed pictures will then be taken. Maybe it's more than a bone bruise after all. If it's a fracture or a hairline fracture, we'll have to see. But then the Olympics are in danger."
