Alexander Zverev will begin his 2024 season at the United Cup, and he is finally motivated to win tournaments again.

Much of the 2023 campaign focused on Zverev finding himself on the court after missing a long time due to his ankle injury. The injury was behind him, but nobody really knew how he would play and whether he'd find his best tennis again.

It's safe to say that Zverev is pretty much back as he played a pretty decent season, finding himself at the ATP Finals once more. It was a tricky season, with some heartbreaking losses but also a few trophies, and he can't really be mad at that.

Yeah, I mean, we're back to hopefully somewhat a normal mindset. I'm saying normal mindset because last year I came to Australian Open, and I openly said in all the press conferences, I'm not here to win the tournament, which is not the mindset I was going into tournaments usually. I'm past that now.

As Zverev explained, the mindset this year is vastly different compared to last year. He's back to being number 7 in the world, and the goal is to fight and hopefully win events. In that sense, he does consider himself among those players capable of winning the Australian Open. It's certainly a goal of his.

I'm No. 7 in the world. I won a few titles last year where I've beaten some great players, as well. I think I'm past that now hopefully. I can look forward to being a contender again. That's what I want to be. That's the position I want to put myself in. Yeah, that's the way it is. I'm looking forward to the big events this year.

We'll see what happens at the United Cup and how realistic his expectations are.
