Murray Not Considering Retirement As He Heads Into New Season 'Pumped'

by Zachary Wimer

Andy Murray might be entering the final year of his career, but he's certainly not thinking about that ahead of the new ATP season.

The retirement of Andy Murray has been one of the most talked about things in tennis. It mostly stems from the fact that many people assume that Murray will retire at any moment.

Reality is far different as Murray shut down those talks many times while admitting that technically, it could happen at any time if he gets badly injured.

Luckily, that hasn't happened yet, and Murray is excited about the new season as we're only a few days away from it. Down Under has been good to him historically, and he's excited about seeing what 2024 brings in that regard.

I'm pumped. I always find I play some of my best tennis here, so I’m always excited to get going. The body is old but I still love it. I’m still loving the training and the travel and everything.

The important part for Murray is actually still enjoying what many would describe as the least fun when it comes to playing tennis. Nobody doubts he enjoys competing on the court, but practices and the travels can get old pretty quickly.

The one downside is obviously being away from the family, which is tough, but for now, it's a sacrifice he's still willing to make.

It’s a little bit tougher now being away when you have a young family. But I feel good enough to compete with the best players in the world and I’ll keep playing until I don’t feel like I can do that anymore.

Let's see how well Murray will play in 2024 and whether his excitement is warranted. He crashed down a few times in recent months after making similar statements.
