Boulter Overpowers Tomljanovic To Secure Great Britain's Win Over Australia At United Cup

Katie Boulter stepped up in a big way to down Ajla Tomljanovic at the United Cup, sealing her nation's win over the host nation.

For the second year in a row, Australia is playing host to the United Cup, but this time around, things didn't really start well for them. Playing in Perh, Alex de Minaur was the first on the court, but he was beaten by Cameron Norrie in a nail-biting 3-set finish.

After that we had the WTA match between Boulter and TOmljanovic and the Brit kept it cool. Tomljanovic hasn't played much lately due to her injuries and it kind of showed Boulter had a breakout 2023 campaign and this is a brilliant start for her.

The opening set was a no contest, really, because, after 4 games, the Brit was up 4-0. Tomljanovic did win a few games, but she never really looked that dangerous for her opponent, who would win the opening set 6-2. The Aussie just didn't show up enough, as Boulter won all the crucial rallies despite not serving all that well.

The second set was kind of similar to the first on. Boulter broke Tomljanovic to take an early break, which proved crucial. She would hold onto that break despite some questionable play here and there, and that was the match, really.

The problem for Tomljanovic was just the inability to use her chances when she did get them. It's not like there weren't any, as she had six break points in total and didn't use any of them. Boulter had three and converted all three of them, and that was that. The final score was 6-2 6-4.

Great Britain wins the tie thanks to winning both singles matches; we just don't know if the score will be 2-1 or 2-0 cause the doubles are coming up.
