'What About Next Year In Your Town': Kyrgios Challenges Alcaraz To Exhibition

by Nurein Ahmed

Nick Kyrgios called for 'fun questions' on his Instagram account on Thursday and might have potentially set up a match against world number one Carlos Alcaraz.

One fan asked Kyrgios about the prospect of facing newly-crowned Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz, alluding that it is the best game in tennis right now. Although Kyrgios is currently sidelined due to injury, he regrets that the match never happened during his career-best season in 2022.

Kyrgios, however, laid the challenge bare for Alcaraz to answer, requesting an exhibition match in Alcaraz's hometown in El Palmar, Murcia. It will be fascinating to see if Alcaraz will give Kyrgios and the fans their wish since the Aussie tagged him on the initial story.

"He is a force for sure. I would have loved to see how it would of gone down last year when I was healthy and playing lights out. Carlos Alcaraz, what about next year in your town we do an exhibition?"

Kyrgios also took time to take up a few more questions regarding his private life with his girlfriend, Costeen Hatzi, his biggest rivals on the ATP tour, and the identity of his next tattoo. The Aussie also gave his thoughts at the recent suspension of Mikael Ymer, who missed three out-of-competition doping tests in a 12-month period.

"Ridiculous. Yme is one of the nicest guys on tour. And he shouldn't be banned."

Nick Kyrgios hasn't played since a first-round defeat to Yibing Wu in Stuttgart - his only appearance in an injury-ravaged season. He hasn't set a return date just yet, having pulled out from his scheduled title defense at the Citi Open next week.

He is set for a massive rankings drop as a consequence. But Kyrgios reckons the tour will be better when he and Rafael Nadal are back.
