Alexander Zverev seemed in high spirits when addressing fans following surgery. The German required the operation after suffering his bad ankle injury against Rafael Nadal.
After having to be wheel-chaired off from the 2022 Roland Garros semi-final after he slipped and damaged his ankle, Zverev has sent a message to all tennis fans worldwide following the necessary surgery.
The injury came at an unfortunate time for the German who, going toe-to-toe with legend of the sport Nadal at the time, was arguably playing some of his best tennis.
Moreover, following the result, the German is set to reach a career-high ranking of world number two this coming week thanks to his performance in Paris.
Every cloud does have a silver lining, as they say, and in this case, it is the fact that the surgery that Zverev had to undergo has seemingly gone swimmingly.
The German took to Instagram to update fans on how he is following the fall and appeared positive with the outcome of how his treatment had gone.
"We all have our own journey in life. This is part of mine. Next week I’ll reach a career high ranking of number 2 in the world, but this morning I had to undergo surgery. After further examination in Germany, we received confirmation that all three of the lateral ligaments in my right ankle were torn."
With his gaze fully fixed on his future, Zverev wasted no time in making sure to fill in viewers to when he hopes to be back on the tennis court.
"To return to competition as quickly as possible, to ensure all the ligaments heal properly, and to reclaim full stability in my ankle, surgery was the best choice. My rehab starts now and I’ll do everything to come back stronger than ever! I am continuing to receive so many messages and would like to thank everyone once again for supporting me during such a difficult time."
