Nick Kyrgios accidentally hit a woman with a return that bounced oddly high into the first row of the stands in Washington, and he gifted her a towel because of it.
Kyrgios is no stranger to controversy, but he often shows that he's not just a great tennis player but also a great human being, and despite all the troublesome things he did, he never failed to try and make amends for some of his mistakes.
At the 2022 Citi Open in Washington, Kyrgios accidentally hit an elderly woman in the first row with his return in his second-round match against native player Tommy Paul at the ATP 500 event.
There was no intention in it, the ball simply bounced rather high and the woman was unable to dodge it. At first, it looked like she was in pain, as Paul rushed to assist her, but soon, the match continued.
During the next changeover, when Kyrgios played on that side of the court, the Australian gifted his towel to the lady in question, though she looked a bit confused as to what was going on.
It seemed that the lady did not understand why she got the towel, but a person attending the tournament with her soon explained that it was a way of saying 'sorry' from the Australian.
Kyrgios went on to win the match 6-3, 6-4, to book the third-round spot at the 2022 Citi Open in Washington. Up next, he will take on the winner of the match between the fourth-seeded Reilly Opelka and Denis Kudla.
After his final run at the 2022 Wimbledon, in which he lost to Novak Djokovic, it seems that the Australian rediscovered his top form, and in Washington, he's one of the favourites to win the title.
The second-seeded Hubert Hurkacz and the third-seeded Taylor Fritz are both already out of the tournament, and that means that this can be another good run from Kyrgios.
