After suffering a horrific ankle injury during a match against Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros, Alexander Zverev is back on his feet.
Zverev’s career took a turn for the worse during the recent Roland Garros. It was a shocking development because it came at the time when it was the brightest he shined on a tennis court.
He was playing some of the best tennis he had ever played. His brother Mischa Zverev was on record backing him to win the trophy, and nothing he showed on the tennis courts suggested otherwise.
Even the match against Nadal didn’t seem like a huge problem. While the Spaniard won the opening set, Zverev was right there and looking confident in his ability to turn around the match.
It wouldn’t happen, as he slipped at the start of the second-set tie-break, injuring himself terribly. He couldn’t even walk off the court on his own, as he had to use crutches to support himself.
A prospective maiden Grand Slam glory turned to rubble in an instant, and Zverev was left wondering what would happen with his career. A long recovery was obviously in store for him, and he admitted since that he wouldn’t really rush it in any way.
The good news is that he’s back on his feet, as per a video posted on his Instagram. It hasn’t been that long since his injury, but being back on his feet so quickly should certainly make lots of fans happy.
He certainly seemed upbeat, with a big smile on his face as he slowly but surely made his way closer to the camera. It’s a long road ahead, but with an injury like that, every small step is incremental towards full health, which he hopes doesn’t elude him in the end. For now, he’ll take this small victory.
