Mansour Bahrami stunned the British public with an outrageous shot during the Wimbledon mixed doubles invitational tournament.
Bahrami was born in Iran but has held French citizenship since 1989. He turned pro in 1974 while still in his teenage years. He was not quite prominent and successful in singles but had a remarkable career as a doubles player.
His best ranking in singles was No. 192, which he achieved in 1988, but he was more of a doubles specialist in his career. Bahrami peaked at a career-high ranking of No. 31 in doubles on the ATP Tour and won two career titles in that discipline. His biggest achievement was reaching the 1989 French Open men's doubles final with Éric Winogradsky.
If there is one thing that has earned him the acclaim and adulation of the tennis community, it is how he perfected the craft of trick shots and entertained fans around the world long into his retirement.
Recently, he took part in the 2022 Wimbledon mixed invitation doubles with 1994 Wimbledon champion and WTA legend Conchita Martinez. The pair were in Group A with Todd Woodbridge and Cara Black, Thomas Enqvist and Rennae Stubbs, Thomas Johansson and Mary Joe Fernandez.
Despite losing the first two matches, the 66-year-old Bahrami made sure that no fan would be left without a smile on their face as he defied physics to produce a no-look shot behind the back shot.
After a tense rally in which Bahrami, with his dextrous skills, did exceptionally well to keep the ball in play at the net, he was pushed to hit that sensational winner. Almost the entire court erupted in unison to clap for him, and even his opponents raised their arms aloft in celebration.
"Shot of The Championships?! At 66 years old, Mansour Bahrami continues to defy belief."
