'Very Humbling Experience': Dimitrov On Serena Williams Watching Him In Miami

by Zachary Wimer

Serena Williams was in the house for the semi-final matches at the 2024 Miami Open, and her good friend Grigor Dimitrov was honored to have her there.

The match between Dimitrov and Alexander Zverev was a very interesting matchup on paper, and the Bulgarian ultimately won it to book the Miami Open final-

He'll face Jannik Sinner in the final after the Italian bested Daniil Medvedev earlier that day, and Serena Williams witnessed the action at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

The legend has been enjoying retirement since ending her tennis career, but she still keeps up with the sport. She watched her sister last year during the grass-court part of the season and now made the trip to Miami to enjoy some ATP action.

Asked about having her there, the Bulgarian admitted that he was honored, confirming further that they keep in touch.

"She's amazing. We stay in touch. We nearly speak on a daily basis. She said, I'm gonna come watch. I was, like, Okay. It's always very humbling to have such a supporter in your corner, and I think just before the match she came, we had a little chat."

Dimitrov and Williams have been friends for a long time. They've known each other for years and have stayed in touch. He even recollected that she watched him play when he got his first Top 10 win, which is really interesting, since he made it back to the Top 10 with his win over Zverev.

"Actually, I remember she was even here when I had my first top-10 win. It was a very nice moment. I think we both remember that. It's friendship, man. I think this is the best part."

"Tennis is tennis, but, you know, we are all living our dream right now. I think the real life begins after, and I think we have managed to be such good and close friends after so many years."
