Jannik Sinner vs Grigor Dimitrov: 2024 Miami Open - Preview & Prediction

Jannik Sinner and Grigor Dimitrov will meet in the 2024 Miami Open, with both players eyeing the ATP Masters 1000 trophy.

The second tournament of the Sunshine Double delivered some surprises and also one vintage run from the 32-year-old Bulgarian, who was part of the Top 10 before, but returned to his best tennis now.

Back in 2017, Dimitrov had a sensational season, which included victory runs at the Cincinnati Open and the ATP Finals, catapulting him to his career-high year-end ranking of the world no. 3.

Many expected him to keep shining after that, but Dimitrov hovered around the Top 20 for a few seasons, before starting to play his best tennis again, showing it in a stunning victory against Carlos Alcaraz in Miami.

It was also that win that paved his way into the final of the tournament, where he will take on Sinner, who, too, started his incredible growth late last year. However, the Italian has been arguably the best player in the world in 2024, and he proved it against Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final.

Head-to-head:

The two Miami Open finalists met three times before, and coincidentally, one of the matches was played in Miami. It was last year, when the youngster defeated his much more experienced opponent en route to the final.

Dimitrov also got one win in their H2H, but that was in their first match in 2020 on clay courts in Rome. In the last two matches, which were played on hard courts in 2023, Sinner was the better player.

Jannik Sinner Grigor Dimitrov
2 H2H 1
3 Rank 12
22 Age 32
21-1 2024 W/L 20-4
211-75 Career W/L 433-277

Prediction:

Also because of the recent H2H in his favour, but also just because of how incredible he's been in 2024, Sinner must be the favourite in this match. Still, thanks to his performances against Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev, Dimitrov should be beacked to win at least one set in this match.

Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in three sets.
