One year after leading Italy to a historic Davis Cup win, Jannik Sinner will return to try and do the same thing again.
The young Italian was absolutely amazing at last year's Davis Cup Finals, pushing Italy past a few great teams, including Novak Djokovic and his Serbia. The Italian was the absolute MVP of that event, beating everybody, including Djokovic twice, to win the competition for his country.
It was a hugely important victory for Italy, as they won the Davis Cup for the first time since 1976, and Sinner was celebrated as a national hero, which was fully deserved. They likely wouldn't have won the competition without him, and he will go back this year to try and do the same thing again.
Before that, however, his country has to go through the Davis Cup Qualifiers, but of course, he is part of the Italian team that was named for the 2024 Davis Cup Qualifiers later this year alongside Lorenzo Musetti, Luciano Darderi, Andrea Vavassori, and Simone Bolleli.
It's an interesting mix of players, with some big names missing, such as Matteo Berrettini and Matteo Arnaldi. Both are really excellent players who can offer quite a bit, but most of the time, only two players can play singles matches.
With Sinner as the clear pick, Team Captain Filippo Volandri put his trust into Musetti's hands. Sinner has been amazing all year and certainly is the top name in the team, but Musetti has been slowly rising, with a Wimbledon semi-final run being a tremendous breakout for the clay specialist.
The Italians will be the hosts for their group, as the matches will be played in Bologna from September 10th to the 15th. It's a tricky group for Italy because they will face the Netherlands, a country with some great players.
Brazil is another team with a few solid players, and Belgium will be the third team that will try to fight for a spot in the 2024 Davis Cup Finals.
