Sebastian Korda will not compete at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships after he confirmed his withdrawal from the upcoming Grand Slam because of injury.
Korda impressed during his first visit to SW19 last summer, reaching the fourth round stage and losing to Karen Khachanov. He had entered last year's grass-court major with limited experience on the surface but exceeded expectations.
This year, Korda was going to be a threat and potentially even replicate that run from 12 months ago. But he's been forced to withdraw from the tournament because of a foot injury he sustained while competing at the warm-up event in Eastbourne.
The lanky American lost to Australia's John Millman in the first round of the ATP 250 event and thereafter took to social media to update the tennis community about the chronic injury that has bothered him for a while.
Korda is taking necessary precautions, as experts have advised him to prioritize rest for his condition to improve. He's doing that by skipping one of the most important tournaments for any tennis player, but sadly, he won't be able to showcase his talents there.
Hi all. Sadly I had to withdraw from Wimbledon today after my match in Eastbourne. I have been dealing with terrible shin splints and beaten up feet for quite some time now and can’t go on with it anymore. I have been advised to rest and recuperate is the best way forward.- Korda on withdrawal from Wimbledon
Korda joins Alexander Zverev, who injured his ankle during the French Open semifinal match against Rafael Nadal, and WTA star Naomi Osaka, who is having issues with her Achilles tendon in missing the 2022 Wimbledon.
Because of his lengthy layoff, Korda will likely drop points from Wimbledon, which will most likely end his stay in the Top 50 for a few months.
