Novak Djokovic recently withdrew from the ATP Masters 1000 event in Montreal, and it seems that withdrawals from the tournament in Cincinnati and also the 2022 US Open may follow soon.
Djokovic won't be allowed to enter the United States because of the country's vaccination rules, the same way he wasn't allowed to enter Canada, which is why he withdrew from the 2022 Canadian Open in Montreal.
Soon after the tournament in Montreal, another ATP Masters 1000 event starts in Cincinnati. With Djokovic likely to miss the tournament, many of his colleagues voiced their opinion, as they are bewildered by the fact that the 21-time Grand Slam champion might not be able to compete.
They attempted to show that the rules don't make sense in their opinion. One of those players is John Millman, who shared his opinion on Twitter.
"Thought of the day… I could be covid positive and fly into the States, no questions asked because I’m vaccinated. But someone who has recovered from covid, is now covid negative but hasn’t been vax’d is denied entry.. I know there are border laws but help me understand.."
Another tennis player, Dustin Brown, didn't seem to agree with what his Australian colleague posted, so he explained his point of view. According to the German player, every country has its own rules, which should be respected.
"Every country just has their own rules… Why can I walk on the street in Germany with a beer, but I can't in other countries? Because it's their rules…"
Later, also American tennis player, Reilly Opelka joined the discussion. He used Brown's metaphor but added the names of Tennys Sandgren, who is an American player but is also not vaccinated, and Novak Djokovic.
"But there are some players (Sandgren) that can walk on the street with a beer in the same country that others (Novak) can’t."
